LEED® Silver Certified
Hallmark Construction, Inc. and Xilinx have partnered successfully for the last 18 years including the new construction of their five building campus. That experience enabled Hallmark to effectively team with them again on the renovation of Building 5 to make it a high-performance, energy efficient building.
Hallmark’s LEED® accredited staff worked diligently with Xilinx to obtain Silver Certification for Building 5 from the United States Green Building Council. The categories that were reviewed and rated were sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, material and resources, indoor environmental quality & innovation/design process.
LEED® elements that garnered points included alternative transportation, heat island effect–roof, water use reduction, optimizing energy performance, local & recycled materials, project management of construction waste, indoor environmental quality, and low-emitting materials.
Hallmark’s project management team and construction field crew ensured that over 90% of the project’s construction waste was diverted from the landfill, far exceeding the 75% requirement and gaining a point for innovation. During construction, we also implemented Indoor Air Quality Management Plan to ensure that approved low emitting adhesives, sealants, carpet, composite wood and Green Seal approved paints were utilized.
The use of waterless urinals combined with other low flow fixtures earned 2 points in water use reduction, and the updated glazing, lighting system controllability, and design of the HVAC system assisted in earning points in optimizing energy performance. Xilinx also implemented campus-wide green cleaning products for all maintenance needs which earned them another point for innovation.
