Encompassing more than 20,000 square feet of prime office space, the world’s leading producer of award-winning scholastic publications selected Northern California’s foremost sustainable building general contractor, Hallmark Construction, for the completion of a stunning new headquarters that to date is the largest private, commercial green tenant improvement project in the region. Demonstrating an unwavering commitment to sustainability, this project easily surpassed Monterey’s governmental standards for “smart building” while setting new benchmarks for others to aspire to. Currently the largest green/sustainable tenant improvement project in the City of Monterey. This trend-setting “Class A” tenant improvement project featured the use of recycled and reusable components. The project’s adhesives, paints and finished materials are environmentally friendly low-emitting “green seal” products. Further, both National Geographic School Publishing and Hallmark Construction deemed it a priority to reuse the existing building structure while implementing an indoor air quality management plan as outlined by the United States Green Building Council. Energy efficiency is maximized through fulfillment of the highest possible standards for HVAC and lighting controls.
